Description:
Two very significant storm events, Storm Darragh and Storm Eowyn, occurred in Ireland during December 2024 and January 2025, causing considerable damage across the country, with the West and North-West being the worst affected areas. Coillte suffered approximately 14,500 ha of storm damage, amounting to over 5m m3 of timbe being blown. There was also substantial additional damage caused to private forests. The damage within Coillte equates to more than two years of our normal program, and given that the major part of the damage is confined to the Northern part of our estate, it outlines the extent of the challenge ahead in dealing with the after effects of the storm. Over the last number of months Coillte had sourced and mobilised sufficient capacity to harvest and transport the blown timber to our customer base. We are now focusing our efforts on replanting the 14,500 ha of damaged forests. In this context, Coillte is now seeking interest from potential contractors across Europe to replant these areas, via this PIN (Prior Information Notice). We expect to engage with interested parties on foot of this PIN about potential future planting contracts with Coillte.
