- Two very significant storm events, Storm Darragh and Storm Eowyn, occurred in Ireland in December 2024 and January 2025, which caused considerable damage across the country, with the West and North-West being the worst affected areas. Coillte suffering approximately 14,500 ha of storm damage, amounting to over 5m m3 of timbe being blown. There was also substantial additional damage caused to private forests. The damage within Coillte equates to more than two years of our normal programme, and given that the major part of the damage is confined to the Northern part of our estate, it outlines the extent of the challenge ahead in harvesting this timber before wastage sets in.
