- The Irish Prison Service wishes to establish a framework for the supply of all operational general purpose, scent detection and special purpose dogs (Specifically Belgian Shepherds and Labrador/Spaniel breed types etc ) These dogs will be in service across 13 prisons in Ireland, either in a working capacity or in training etc. Supplied dogs will enter the IPS training program and will be accepted course ready either green or part trained. Prison dogs are a huge asset to the Prison service. Dogs have been used to detect various types of contraband in the IPS since 2008. Scent Detection canines will search persons and areas while GP dogs will be scent capable and carry out a wide variety of prison functions.
